Chapter 8 - Southeast Vancouver Island

By sail or by motor, cruising the inland waterways between Vancouver Island and the mainland is a choice marine experience. The ports and places to visit on Vancouver Island and in the neighboring Gulf Islands are intimately connected by attractive inland waterways that lead to them like highways. From moorage in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, boaters can enjoy the city’s old world charm (think high tea at the landmark Empress Hotel and horse drawn carriage rides) as well as fun, funky attractions like the Bug Zoo or the Miniature World Museum. The new Victoria International Marina is custom made for yachts 65' to 175'.  Guest of the marina enjoy world class moorage with a perfect view of the harbour.  On the Saanich Peninsula, the lovely town of Sidney also beckons with a variety of things to see and do, most within walking distance of the Port Sidney Marina. The Shaw Centre For The Salish Sea and the Sidney Summer Market are just two examples. One mile North of Sidney in Tsehum Harbour is Van Isle Marina, a 3rd generation family business. Off the coastline, islands including Discovery Island, D’Arcy Island, Sidney Island and Portland Island host picturesque Marine Parks. While you enjoy this simple, back to nature setting it’s always nice to know that boating services, repairs, marinas and supplies are not far away.  A cruise around the north end of the Peninsula leads into Saanich Inlet where the Mill Bay Marina makes a memorable stop as does the spectacular Butchart Gardens in Tod Inlet.
